Frequently Asked Questions

BCI’s Vocational Training programs are open to anyone with a disability. We serve people from St. Charles County, St. Louis County, and Lincoln County.

Yes. BCI’s Vocational Training program can serve students who are still in high school. Some funding programs have restrictions for high school students, but we work with school districts to provide placement and tuition coverage for students in their fourth or fifth year of high school.

Attending a High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) program does not count as being enrolled in high school.

Some employers may require students to have a high school diploma or equivalency before they can be hired. However, a diploma or HiSET is not required to start training.

Most employers require workers to be at least 18 years old to work full time. There is no maximum age as long as the person wants to work.

We do not have entrance exams. However, students must complete a short trial for each vocational program. Most trials take 30 minutes or less.

If a student does not pass the trial, we will provide resources to help them improve. They can return and try again in the future.

Students do not need prior experience or knowledge to start a program. However, they must be able to follow directions and understand that the job may require physical activity and stamina.

Tuition for BCI’s Vocational Training program is $8,000 per program. Full tuition funding as well as scholarships are available, so students may not have to pay the cost themselves.

Students typically attend classes Monday through Friday. Each program is unique, so class schedules and times may vary. The class length is set for each program and includes training in the job skills and workplace skills needed for success.

While we cannot guarantee a job, we work hard to prepare students for competitive employment. We work closely with our training partners to make sure students are work-ready. We also build partnerships with employers to help increase students’ chances of finding a job.

Students are expected to attend class every day. If a student cannot attend, they must let their instructor know. We have a strict attendance policy, and repeated absences will likely result in the student being asked to leave the program.

Students should wear business casual clothing or clothing and shoes that meet the program partner’s requirements. Students will receive all dress code information before their first day of class.

Yes. Students spend one hour each school day learning and practicing workplace skills, also called soft skills. These include communication, problem-solving, teamwork, appropriate dress and appearance, and workplace expectations.

Students learn through class discussions, group and individual activities, role-playing, and mock interviews. All activities are designed to help students prepare for the workplace.
